Swimsuit season is on the horizon but perhaps you’re not as excited about it as you’ve been in the past. You’ve worked hard all winter to get ready but there’s still a bulging, pudgy spot, or pocket of fat in the wrong place(s).
If you feel you’re not ready for swimsuit season or you feel your curves could use a bit of refining, various body contouring treatment procedures are designed just for that. In fact, one of the most effective and popular solutions to become more contoured and beach-ready is liposuction.

How Liposuction Can Prepare You for Summertime
It’s important to remember that liposuction is not a weight-loss tool or an alternative to regular exercise and a proper diet. It is an effective supplement to help you go the final step to reach your body sculpting goals. It has been an effective, safe procedure for more than four decades, and its popularity remains high because it is still one of the best ways to shed fat and prepare you for swimsuit season.
Traditionally, the procedure targets unwanted fat cells and extracts them through cannulas, which are small suction devices that remove fat. At CLDerm, our expert team can utilize more advanced methods that involve lasers or radiofrequency, which non-invasively destroy fat cells for results that continue improving for several weeks as you heal and recover. Liposuction with lasers or radiofrequency also stimulates collagen growth to help your skin remain firm and taut.
Target Specific Pockets of Troublesome Fat
Liposuction is an ideal choice if you want to remove that last pocket of fat in the following areas:
- Waist
- Hips
- Tummy
- Thighs
- Butt
- Upper arms
- Knees
Full Body Contouring
Also known as full body liposuction, full body contouring refers to having more than one area of the body treated simultaneously. This type of treatment plan is for patients wanting to contour more than problem area of their body for a more balanced look in a swimsuit.
For example, if you have excess fat in several places on your upper body – under your chin, on your arms, and around your stomach – this type of liposuction could help you reach your body sculpting goals.
Or maybe you have love handles and a butt you’d like to reshape. We can treat these different parts of your body with a full body lipo treatment, and it is tailored to meet your individual goals.
Liposculpture
Liposculpture refers to a more recent technique that we helped develop that uses a more “artful” approach to precisely refine and contour your troublesome areas to achieve a more natural result. Although it is still liposuction, there are small differences that many patients find beneficial.
For example, the term “liposuction” is often used to refer to larger pockets of fat from which more fat is removed, while “liposculpture” refers to smaller areas (e.g., the arms or chin) that require a more precise touch.
One benefit to liposculpture is that the fat is removed under local anesthesia only (as opposed to a more traditional procedure, in which general anesthesia is used). The targeted area is filled with a solution that includes lidocaine to numb the area to make you as comfortable as possible. An additional advantage of local anesthesia is that the solution also contains epinephrine (adrenaline), which helps reduce bleeding and makes recovery and healing less difficult.
Another benefit to liposculpture is that your skin doesn’t lose its elasticity as easily. If additional skin tightening is wanted, a laser tightening technique could benefit you and help you achieve your swimsuit body goals.

Side Effects and Recovery
In one form or another, liposuction has been a common part of cosmetic medicine for more than 40 years, which is a testament not just to its effectiveness but also its safety track record.
Still, side effects from liposuction are not uncommon, though advances in technology and technique mean fewer, less severe, and more short-lived complications. Most side effects are relegated to the unwanted fat removal treatment area and include the following:
- Bruising
- Soreness
- Swelling
- Temporary Numbness
Most of the side effects are mild and dissipate within 7-10 days, just in time for you to be ready for swimsuit season.
